| Electromagnetic
fields (EMFs) are present everywhere. From the digital clock radio to the electric blanket
to the home computer, EMFs are a fact of life. The human body and the earth itself possess
EMFs.
Most of the public attention devoted to EMFs and health effects that could be associated
with them has focused on high voltage transmission lines.
Dozens of studies have been conducted over the past 20 years, but no conclusive scientific
evidence has been produced to either prove or disprove linkage between EMFs and adverse
health effects.
In order to investigate the complex scientific issues fairly and impartially, more research
is currently underway at some of the nation's foremost laboratories. O&R, through
its membership in the Electric Power Research Institute, has supported these studies in
the past and plans to do so in the near term.
The Electric and Magnetic
Fields Research and Public Information Dissemination Program (EMF RAPID) can answer
questions you may have about EMFs around your home. If you still have serious concerns,
we'll try to help. A company engineer can measure the levels of EMFs from all sources
in and around your home so that you have reliable data.
